Iranian media has announced the first launch of a new Iranian launch vehicle called Zoljanah-1. Although the exact date has not been disclosed, the launch occurred during January. The 25.5m-long three-stage launch vehicle was apparently launched on a suborbital test flight from the Sharoud site. Zoljanah-1 has a diameter of 1.5m and is thought to use two solid rocket first stages, derived from the Sejil ballistic missile, and a liquid fuel upper stage derived from a stage of the Safir 2 rocket, which Zoljanah-1 may be replacing. The Zoljanah-1 is thought to be able to carry circa 200-300 kg to a 500 km Sun-synchronous low Earth orbit.
