Having previously been charged to build to previous 3U Cubesat’s as technology demonstrators (KIPP and CASE) for the Toronto based satellite operator Kepler Communications, the Scottish small satellite manufacturer AAC Clyde (the new name of Clyde Space following its acquisition by Sweden’s AAC Microtec) has received a construction order for a prototype ahead of its planned 140 satellites for a constellation offering Machine-to-Machine services. Compared to KIPP and CASE, this one will be a larger 6U Cubesat spacecraft and will be called TARS. The TARS spacecraft is expected to be launched in late 2019/early 2020 timeframe, ahead of the first ten first generation (GEN 1) Kepler constellation spacecraft which will launch in 2020.
