On 2 July 2020, Optus, an Australian regional satellite operator placed an order for the Airbus, all-electric, software-defined, OneSat platform. This marks the second customer for this platform. The satellite will be called Optus11, and will host a software-defined Ku-band VHTS payload. OPTUS 11 will be used to provide satellite broadcast and broadband services over Australia and New Zealand. It is also likely that the satellite will be fitted with an SBAS-payload (Satellite-Based Augmentation System) to enhance GPS-services over the Australia-New Zealand region.
The satellite is to be launched in 2023, and will be co-located with the older Optus D1 satellite at 160 degrees East.
