Blue Origin is proving the concept of reusability as it made a third flight using the same reusable New Shepard suborbital rocket on 2 April 2016. The flight reached an altitude of 103km (339,178 feet) – 3km further than the accepted start of “space” – where it deployed its parachute equipped re-entry capsule, which will one day carry tourists. The rocket stage landed after the engine was restarted at only 3,600 feet above the ground, requiring the BE-3 engine to start fast and ramp up to high thrust rapidly to allow a soft landing. The capsule landed safely via parachute.
