A Long March 2D/2 rocket successfully blasted off from the Jiuquan launch site in China on 15 August 2016 at 1740 GMT. Aboard the rocket were three spacecraft. The main payload was the QUESS (Quantum Experiment Scientific Satellite) which has subsequently been renamed Mozi Hao after the ancient Chinese philosopher Mo Zi. The spacecraft is revolutionary in that it has been designed to perform super-secure communications experiments using quantum entanglement.
The secondary payloads included the Lixing-1 atmospheric research satellite (aka QDKSW), and the 3Cat-2 spacecraft for the Universita Politecnica de Catalunya of Space which will use GPS reflection techniques to measure altitude.
