A Chinese Long March 2D/2 launch vehicle, lifting off from the Jiuquan launch site at 0015 GMT on 4 September 2014 successfully deployed two small communications satellites into orbit. Built by SAST (Shanghai Academy of Space Technology) the first satellite, Chuang Xing 1-04 (CX-1-04), is a store and relay satellite to collect and relay data on hydrological and meteorological experiments.
The other payload on the flight was the experimental communications satellite is called Ling Qiao which was built by Tsinghua University in conjunction with Beijing Xinwei Telecom Technology Co. Ltd., a Chinese telecom operator. It is believed to be of similar mass to its co-payload.
