Chinese taikonauts complete second spacewalk

by | Aug 23, 2021 | China, Seradata News, space station

Shenzhou 12 taikonauts, Liu Boming and Nie Haisheng conducted the second EVA from the Chinese Space Station (CSS) on 20 August at 0038 GMT. Tang Hongbo remained inside the Tianhe-1 module this time whilst mission commander Nie Haisheng worked with Liu Boming to install a range of equipment. First the taikonauts fixed a foot restraint and a platform to the station’s robot arm. They then attached a bracket to the panoramic camera near the hatch, which will help improve the camera’s view of the space station. They also installed a thermal control pumping set as part of a backup air-conditioning unit to help flow liquid coolant through a thermal control system loop. This will assist in regulating the temperatures inside the space station.

This was Nie Haisheng’s first EVA and Liu Boming’s second EVA of this mission but his third spacewalk in total. His first EVA was during China’s first spacewalk in September 2008.

The taikonauts returned to the space station at 0633 GMT after completing their scheduled tasks.
