A Dnepr 1A launch vehicle marketed by the ISC Kosmotras organisation was successfully launched from the Russian launch site of Yasniy-Dombarovskiy, in Russia at 1911 GMT on 19 June. On board were the Deimos-2 spacecraft which was a 300kg 0.75m high resolution Earth observation satellite built by South Korea’s Satrec Initiative for the Spanish firm Deimos Imaging, and Kazeosat-2, a 180kg medium resolution satellite built by Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL) for the Government of Kazakhstan. SSTL indirectly also had a hand in Deimos-2 as it originally trained Satrec’s engineers.
Over thirty other mainly cubesat class spacecraft were carried including 11 Flock 1C imaging satellites for Planetlabs.
