SpaceNews reports that Israeli satellite operating firm Spacecom has decided to exercise its “free relaunch” that was owed to it by SpaceX after that company unintentionally destroyed its AMOS-6 spacecraft in a Falcon 9 fiery prelaunch accident in September 2016. The new launch will take place in 2019 and will carry the 5,500 kg AMOS-17 which is being built by the US satellite constructor Boeing Satellite Systems. In addition to this flight, according to the report citing a posting to the Israeli stock exchange, Spacecom is likely to pay SpaceX US$62 million to launch a second satellite, AMOS-8, on a Falcon 9 flight in 2020. This launch vehicle is likely to be a previously flown variant.
