Having already won the contract for the first batch of 10 yet-to-be launched GPS 3A satellites (ordered in 2008), Lockheed Martin found itself in the enviable position of being the sole bidder for the GPS 3F (Follow-on) batch of 22 satellites, as part of a contract for the US Air Force. This has been confirmed with the fixed-price contract valued at US$7.2 billion. The first launch will take place in 2026. The new generation of satellites will be more accurate and more resistant to electronic attack.
