India has announced that its planned GSAT-20 communications satellite (aka GSAT-N2) will be launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch in Q2 2024. The 4,700 kg GSAT-20 spacecraft is defined as a Ka-band high thoughput satellite (HTS). The satellite is being financed by NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), a commercial subsidiary of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The spacecraft is being constructed by ISRO. The “Demand Driven Mode” satellite is a follow-on to its sister spacecraft GSAT-24 which was launched by an Ariane 5 ECA+. The GSAT-20 offers Ka-Ka band HTS capacity with 32 beams having Pan-India coverage with speeds of 48 Gpbs.
