Russia launched the Glonass M59 satellite navigation satellitle into medium Earth orbit on a Soyuz 2-1B Fregat M launch vehicle at 0854 GMT on 11 December 2019 from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Northern Russia. The satellite will be placed into plane 1 slot 4 of the Glonass constellation. Like the US GPS system, the constellation of navigation satellites was built primarily for military use, but over time, has come to be used extensively by commercial users as well.
