Cyclone-4 (Tsyklon 4) rocket launches from Alcantara to start in Q4 2014

Alcantara Cyclone Space, the joint Brazilian-Ukrainian firm offering Tsiklon 4 (Cyclone-4) launches from the Alcantara launch base in Brazil has noted that its first flight will take place in the fourth quarter of 2014. According to the Flightglobal/Ascend SpaceTrak database, aboard that flight will be the 35kg Japanese astronomical satellite, Nanojasmine.

The ten-year-old project aims to launch the Cyclone-4 (Tsykkon 4), a derivative of the Ukranian-built Tsyklon 2 and 3 vehicles, using a new multi-burn upper stage.  The flights are to be made from Alcantara, Brazil, making good use of the natural Earth-spin boost and low orbital inclination advantages of this launch site which is just over 2 degrees from the equator.

The Cyclone 4 is claimed to have the ability to launch 5685 kg into equatorial LEO (circular 200 km), 3910 kg into SSO (circular 400 km), and 1600 kg into GTO.
