The latest Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) communictions spacecraft for the US Department of Defense, AEHF 3 has been successfully launched into orbit via an Atlas ATLAS V 531 launch vehicle. The lift off took place from the Cape Canaveral launch site in Florida at 0810 GMT. The spacecraft was built by Lockheed Martin using the A2100M version of its A2100 family bus/platform. The spacecraft will later be manoeuvred from its transfer orbit to Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO).
