A Long March 4B launch vehicle launched the Shi Jian 16 research satellite from the Jiuquan launch site in China at 0250 GMT on 25 October. The exact nature of the spacecraft remains mysterous but is officially described by the Chinese Xinhua news agency as for “spacial environment detection and technological experiments.”
