The BBC television science fiction adventure series Dr Who is 50 years old. With some breaks, the show has been running since November 1963 and was first broadcast the day that US President John F. Kennedy was shot dead. The adventures of a time lord has was revived in the early 2000s with significantly better special effects and production values than was the case during the 1960s and 1970s. Nevertheless the plots are lot more confusing nowadays.
Hyperbola’s favourite episode involved Tom Baker’s excellent late 1970s/early 1980s Doctor character showing two members of a robot race ohow to beat the evil and frightening Daleks. The Doctor showed two robots scissors-paper-rock game in order to show them that logical strategy computers tended think the same way, and that in order to break the stalemate with the Daleks they would need different thinking. Post Script: Your correspsondent was once asked to sign a contract with a clause that held “until the end of time”. This writer mused that only God or a time-lord could have enforced such a contract.
