A rare hybrid annular/total solar eclipse in which a “total eclipse” in which the Moon blocks out the sun (except for its Corona) takes turns with a “ring of fire”annular eclipse where the Moon is not quite large enough to cover the sun, was visible over the Atlantic on 3 November with partial (“bite out of the apple”) eclipses visible either side of the line. After a very short annular eclipse phase, a total eclipse could be seen in totality along a narrow 13km wide strip stretching from central part of the Atlantic Ocean to Northern Kenya and Somalia in Africa in the early afternoon according to GMT/UT. In astrology and other superstition, eclipses are thought to be portents of political change or war.
