At 0401 GMT on 20 January 2016, a PSLV-XL launch vehicle was successfully launched from the Sriharikota launch site in Southern India. Aboard the rocket was a 1,425kg Indian navigation satellite called IRNSS-1E which will eventually be placed into an inclined geosynchronous orbit as part of the seven satellite IRNSS constellation. The satellite was built by the Indian Space Research Organisation on the basis of its I-1K satellite bus design.
