Media reports quoting Intelsat sources indicate that while Intelsat 19 has now deployed its jammed solar array fully, aiding the balance and fuel economy of the satellite, the array was apparently damaged and has suffered a approximate 50% shortfall in power (25% of the satellite’s power overall).
A full investigation into the cause of the damage is underway. It has been alleged that the damage was possibly caused during an unexpected “pressure event” detected within the fairing during Intelsat 19’s launch on a Sea Launch operated Zenit 3-SL rocket.
