Having had its elliptical orbit around Earth raised to reach the moon, NASA’s Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE) spacecraft finally entered lunar orbit on the morning of 6 October. The orbital insertion occurred after LADEE fired its main engine 1057 GMT on 6 October for a four minute burn. The spacecraft will use further burns to circularise its orbit. After a one month testing period, LADEE will start its three month mission to examine the Lunar atmosphere.
