Obama is talking to ISS and Space Shuttle Discovery crews with school children and members of Congress, he said the nation was proud of their astronauts

Obama told about solar array installation and he linked that with his efforts to encourage green energy

 

Obama talks to the Japanese and Russian crew members with an emphasis on the international aspect of the station

Obama is asking kids for a question, the question is what do you eat?

The reply is hydrated and military RTEM

Can you play video games in space is the second question, yes say the astronauts

Crews are now talking about experiments, combustion processes, life sciences, materials

The third school children’s question is any life forms out there?

Answer was they swobbed EVA suits before and after an EVA to see if bacteria can survive space

The fourth question is about what they have to learn to become astronauts

Obama is asking about fitness requirements, he is being told about exercise machines on ISS

Next question is about number of stars in cosmos, countless, is the answer unsurprisingly

Obama asks about weightlessness and its affect on sleep patterns

Takes a lot to get used to it is the answer

Obama asks Congress to ask a question, [inaudible name] asks about salmonella experiments

Bill Nelson is talking about ISS being a national laboratory and is asking when will the ISS be fully operational

Answer is that now the ISS will get all its promised solar power, delivering double the power that they had for experiments

A school child has asked if astronauts “love their job”, the Japanese crew member answered yes

Obama is asking about how long it takes to get to the station

 A school child has asked what the astronauts’ favourite experiment is?

Human physiology work is one astronauts favourite

Obama is asking about a female crew members length of hair, she chose to keep to it long

Obama is asking if email works same between ISS and computers on earth, answer is emails are sychonrised for transmit and reception once or twice a day, they also have VOIP telephones

A statement from a member of Congress [name inaudible], a central Florida representative, she mentioned America’s “supremacy in space exploration” and gushed more about this and that and mentioned space based solar power in a round about sort of way

Obama is signing off and thanking the astronauts, final ISS comments from US station commander Mike Finke
