At 2011 GMT on 29 March 2016, a Long March 3A launch vehicle has successfully launched Beidou 2-IGS 6 from the Xichang launch site in China. The 3,800kg spacecraft which was built by CAST (Chinese Academy of Space Technology) was the 22nd Beidou navigation satellite to be launched into the constellation. The spacecraft was placed into a geosynchronous transfer orbit on its way to its intended highly inclined geosynchronous operational orbit.
