The US-based spacecraft manufacturer, Space Systems/Loral, a subsidiary of the Canadian firm MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd (MDA) has been awarded a contract to build a new communications satellite. The identity of the spacecraft and the customer has not been revealed however. The spacecraft, which will carry a communications payload of C-band and Ku-band transponders, will use a version of the firm’s LS-1300 (SSL-1300) bus design. The deal is for a “delivery to orbit”. Hence Space Systems/Loral will be procuring a launch for the satellite.
