Space Systems/Loral to build Star One D1

The construction contract for the Star One D1 communications satellite has been awarded to Space Systems Loral on 18 July 2013 but was not formally named unitl 15 August 2013.  The spaceceraft is being built for, Star One, a subsidiary of Embratel, the largest satellite operator in Latin America.

Star One D1, will be equipped with C-, Ku-, and Ka-band payloads for telecommunications, television broadcast, broadband, Internet access services over Brazil and in the Latin American region. The spacecraft will support the Olympic Games in 2016 that will take place in Rio de Janeiro.  Star One D1 will be located at 84 degrees West longitude and is scheduled for launch in early 2016.
