The launch for the Turkmenistan National System of Satellite Communications satellite (Turkmenistan NSSC aka Turkmensat 1) has been awarded to Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX). Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) was awarded a contract by Thales Alenia Space to launch Turkmenistan NSSC to geostationary transfer orbit in late-2014 or early 2015 aboard a Falcon 9 alunch vehicle.
Comment by David Todd: The contract award was made by Thales Alenia Space which is building the satellite under a delivery to orbit contract. According to the Flightglobal SpaceTrak database, this launch order has a convoluted history. In late 2010 it was mooted that a SpaceX Falcon 9 would provide the launch. However, in Deceember 2011 it was then announced that the satellite had been contracted to fly on a Long March launch vehicle. However, as a result of the difficulties of flying ITAR regulated US-sourced space hardware on a Chinese launch, the Long March booking has now been cancelled in favour of SpaceX again.
