An Atlas V 401 launch vehicle operated under the colours of the Boeing/Lockheed Martin joint firm, the United Launch Alliance (ULA) successfully launched the Boeing-built GPS IIF-11 navigation spacecraft for the US Air Force on 31 October 2015. The launch, which took place from the Cape Canaveral Air Station, took place at 1613 GMT. The 1,630kg satellite has a military use albeit with extensive civilian applications is designed to last 12 years in its Plane 2 Slot E position in the inclined Medium Earth Orbit GPS constellation about 20,000km above the Earth’s surface.
